Chancellor, Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence

Chief Mentor, Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam group of Institutions

“A perfect balance between Parā Vidyā – spiritual education and Aparā Vidyā – material education is the essence of the ancient Gurukula system of education in Bharath.

The revival of this supreme  ideal of education, in its true spirit, is happening currently on a grand scale by the supreme will of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba through His chosen instrument, Sadguru Sri Madhusudan Sai. Under the banner of Sri Sathya Sai Gurukulam, Sri Madhusudan Sai has launched a movement of modern gurukulas which are currently spread across the State of Karnataka and a few neighbouring States.

Their number has grown to over twenty in the last eight years. In these educational campuses, presently crowned with a University, close to five thousand boys and girls are being imparted the wholesome blend of spiritual and material education completely free of cost. When money is removed out of the equation of education, equal opportunities are thrown open to the children of all classes and strata of society, and that is what is happening here now. These educational campuses are idealistic in  their objectives, pragmatic in their approach and naturalistic in their settings.

Education must liberate man from the bondage of individual consciousness and the consequent narrow-minded selfishness and raise him to divine consciousness and the resulting broadminded selflessness. Training the students to develop their physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual  abilities to their fullest potential with motivation to serve the society selflessly, is the essence of education in these campuses of the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam..”

Education

True education shines in the beauty of the spirit and of highest wisdom. It is effulgence that permeates a full life and that which leads every human towards attainment of his real nature through purification and sublimation of his consciousness.

The modern educational system is producing students with information - based knowledge, rather than transformational knowledge. This has resulted in overt acts of violence; unrest; lack of peace and understanding, in the society. Thus, any amount of knowledge transfer will not be successful, if it does not help with translating values into a daily reality.

What the world needs today is neither a new order, or a new society, nor a new education. The remedy lies in a mind and in a heart filled with goodness. Research has shown that, the Spiritual Quotient and the Emotional Quotient are becoming equally important, if not more important, than Intelligence Quotient. We take this responsibility very seriously to help the child develop the right behaviour which would create joy and happiness in his or her own life and in the life of those around him or her.

Education experts define the most important skills for the twenty first century students of a global society, as the 4 C’s – critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity. But, we consider the 5th C – character over and above the 4 C’s, and as the most important. Simply put, Character is the ability to do the right thing always.

Our education system is based on the philosophy of our Founder, Sri Sathya Sai Baba who firmly believed that the integrated development of the child, with the right balance of academic, moral and spiritual education is to be achieved. The Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam, has a child-centric, balanced and insightful approach, where learning is truly a joy.

The integral system of education at the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam is contributing its might to the cause of nation building by creating strong individuals with wonderful synthesis of competent Hands, brilliant Heads and compassionate Hearts, the 3H formula - the trinity which makes a true human being.

Core Principles

Since inception several decades ago, the objective of the Sathya Sai way of education has always been to impart free values-based integral education that helps build character in the children, who are dedicated to serving the society. There are four aspirational characteristics displayed by the individual who has passed through the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam system of education:

1. sarve jñānōpa sampannaḥ (सवेर् ज्ञानोपसंपन्नाः)

Knowledge about all the subjects and skills concerning the world

  • Academic excellence pertaining to subject knowledge

  • Life skills like communication, technology, inter-personal relations, cooking, maintenance, driving etc.

2. sarve samuditā guṇaihi (सवेर् समुिदतागुणैः)

Repositories of all the good qualities that emanate spontaneously

  • Love, kindness, compassion, dutifulness, discipline, patriotism, service-mindedness etc.

3. sarve vedavidaḥ dhīrāḥ (सवेर् वेदिवदःधीराः)

Knowledge about ancient Indian wisdom - the Bharathiya culture

  • Study of spiritual texts and philosophies

  • Practical application of Vedic wisdom in everyday life by discriminating between right
    and wrong

4. sarve lōkahite ratāḥ (सवेर् लोकिहते रताः)

Ever engaged in the welfare of the world

  • Dedicated to society’s welfare

  • Using one’s professional skills and knowledge to help others

Thus, the true education imparted by the Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Gurukulam, would ensure the very best for the child and the world at large.
